The role of the nurse practitioner varies from state to state across the United States as well as the educational preparation required. duties of midlevel providers in the radiology department include but are not limited to the following: completion of patient history and physicals, pre-procedure evaluations and post-procedure follow up care, performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, coordination of care for the radiology patient, seeing patient in clinic, as well as cultivating relationships with potential referral sources to provide the clinical services they can expect in the more complex vascular cases. In order to maintain a healthy referral base the interventional team must provide complete peri procedural and comprehensive care. Nurse Practitioners can facilitate the care of the interventional patient, increase the efficiency of the radiologists, and improve workflow. I will speak to the barriers that exist and the means to overcome barriers using a team approach.
